The Book That I Am In — Winners and My Favorite Summer Reads

I know this post is almost a week late.  Please forgive me!  Between being back at work, raising two toddlers, and frequent pain from the car accident, posting has gotten pushed to the bottom of the to-do list on more than one occasion.

I have to say that I am really impressed with your reading totals…and basically blown away by the winners.  I think you will be too!  Myself, I managed to read 12.5 books and 5,589 pages.  Not too shabby!  I really fell off the wagon towards the end of the summer, but overall I managed to keep myself reading at a pretty steady pace.  Now for the winners…

The reader who read the most book was Ranj with a total of 87.5 books!  Amazing.

The read with who read the most pages was Stephanie with over 29,500 pages read!  Wow.

You’ll notice neither winner has a blog or twitter for me to link to.  Perhaps this is their secret to reading so much.  Ladies, email me your address so I can send out your prizes!

Even though I didn’t manage to read 88 books this summer, I still had some really fantastic reads that I want to share with you.  These are a few of my favorites from this summer…

What I Did by Christopher Wakling — I already reviewed this book on the blog, but I have to mention it again.  Great writing, great character voice, and a book that makes you think.  Read it!

Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman — Just an overall good book.  Nothing spectacular, but great storytelling.

The Flight of Gemma Hardy Margot Livesey — A novel clearly inspired by Jane Eyre, this was a true favorite for me this summer.

Looking for Alaska by John Green — I absolutely adore the way Green writes his teenage characters.  If you love YA, but need a break from dystopia, check out John Green.

Thanks for reading along this summer!  I think next summer I’ll modify the rules so that you get a certain number of entries based on how many books you read.  I had no idea people would be getting such high numbers.  Hope you enjoyed playing along and that you were inspired to read a little more than usual!

  1. Wow! And I was impressed with myself. Those ladies are amazing! Congrats to them!

I’ve added some of the books you mentioned to my library request list. 🙂 Thanks for the rec’s!

  2. Wow!!! I’m stoked I won…thanks are due to the new iPad I got for mothers day and my 10 month old terror. I knew he didn’t like sleep training for a reason. Lol. I actually have both a twitter account and a blog…but keeping them updated went the way of my resolutions to eat healthy and exercise more.
    I’ve emailed you my address.

  3. WOOHOO!!!!!
E-mailed you. I attribute my (almost disturbing) amount of reading to working on my dissertation, prepping for a few new online courses I will be teaching, and the fact that my kids are a bit older so they are more self sufficient. Also, I never ever leave home without my kindle….

  4. sweet mercy that’s a lot of reading, ha. and thanks for sharing your faves, i love adding new books to my to-read list.
